Nant Idwal

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Recent from Snowdonia. These are the falls at the end of Nant Idwal which feed into the Ogwen falls. You can just see Y Garn in the cloud in the distance and to the left, Castell y Geifr, which is welsh for Castle of the Goats!! The goats round here are bad ass, they deserve a castle!!

Slate Chaos

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

The somewhat natural organised chaos of the remains of a slate quarry. This is the original hill side but stripped for decent slate.

5DmkII vs 4×5 neg

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Recently while shooting some new stuff for BaaBar I took a quick shot with the 4×5 on Portra 160nc. Thought it would be interesting to compare to the 5D. Not a particularly scientific test but it shows some interesting stuff. 5×4 is at the top by the way.

Check out the differences in the red light boxes, the Canon has some weird stuff going on were you can see the placement of the tubes as yellowy hotspots! I’ve not been able to get rid of them unless the image is massively underexposed. I’m guessing its to do with the spectral response of the 5D’s chip and its seeing more than the naked eye!

Back in Black (& White)

Friday, June 11th, 2010

It only took 10 years but I’ve shot some b&w film again. It’s FP4+ which ironically is out of date by 10 years! Not one of my favorite b&w films ever, but it was free and its not a bad film to ease back in with.

Fav shot from the batch is this of the new Museum of Liverpool. Can’t wait for the hording to be taken down and to get it shot on some proper b&w like Fuji Acros

New blog, New Website, New subjects

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

So.. I’ve decided to embrace modern culture and start up a blog! All the cool kids are doing it and I was starting to feel left out. I dont know how often i’ll post and appologise now for what I might put up, but I’ll try and make it interesting!

Recently redesigned my website, which you can check out at –

I’ve also changed the focus of my work to landscapes and architectural. While I love shooting people, I love shooting landscapes/buildings even more. Nothing like being outdoors, just you and the camera. Especially if that camera is a lovely 5×4 field camera that takes an age to set up, just to capture that magic 1/15th of a second.

Hope you all enjoy my ramblings on here and I’ll try and keep it upto date!

One of my fav shots at the moment. River bed in Coed y Brenin.
